Roof Caps
There are several different types of roof caps. There are vent caps and roof caps that form a barrier where several different angles come to a peak on the roof.
Vent caps can be made of vinyl or other plastics, but are best when made of metal. Copper is a very popular choice for vent caps because of how long lasting it is. It adds a punch of pizzazz on a typical shingled roof and is a necessity with a copper roof to keep the sleek and continuous look. These type of roof caps tend to have a bug screen built in to prevent critters from entering the home through the vents.
It is very difficult to moisture proof a joint of a house where upwards of four angles come to a point. Caulk can be used to seal the joint, but will only last a couple of years before that has to be replaced. A copper roof cap is a popular choice because it can be made to overlap the seam and create a smooth surface to the shingles. Often the cap is used as a base for an ornament such as a lightning rod finial or a weathervane. This will create a coherent look on your copper roof.
